With participants from government, and non-government organizations, including journalists and lawyers, the Rule of Law forum held an Advocacy workshop on “Rule of Law” in Mathara G.M.W. Hotel on 2nd December 2022. This program was facilitated by Mr. Basil Fernando, from AHRC. This program was conducted as training sessions using a participatory approach, sharing day-to-day life experiences and how the participants feel about the situations, especially in the current context, through video presentations and group discussions.
Also, there were requests from the participants to have more educational sessions on the Rule of Law, especially based on the current situation of the country. Participants came up with suggestions for police, judicial, and constitutional reforms during the group discussions. Those suggestions have been collected and will be added to the separate documents to be used for the advocacy campaigns. Three members of the regional human rights commission in Matara District (under the National Human Rights Commission) participated in the program, and the regional coordinator emphasized the importance of the rule of law and what’s happening in the country in terms.
