Internship


Interns at the RLF typically support a programme desk through case documentation, research and communication assistance.

The available internship placements are normally limited to two internships per year at this point. Internships for persons from the educational institutions and human rights organizations are given priority.

Other persons interested in an internship with the RLF may also apply under the following conditions. The applicant should stay for a minimum period of six months. The RLF does not provide monthly payment for these persons. Interns with a strong legal background or psychology and counselling background and, experience and a strong interest in human rights or counselling are preferred. Applications are judged on their individual merits and according to the needs of the RLF at the time. The number of such self-supported internships are limited to a very few placements per year. We receive many more applications than we can accept and we may not be able to respond to all applications.An application for a self-supported internships should:

  • include full personal details
  • explain the interest in human rights and Asia, the educational and professional background
  • state for which period the internship is intended: January 1 – June 30, July 1 – December 31, or other periods, please mention your flexibility with the provided dates.
  • explain  what means the internship can be financially supported by the applicant or other institutions
  • be submitted at least 4 months before the beginning of the internship

Only complete applications will be assessed. The RLF may request further information or documents by email later if necessary. Self supported internships can be submitted as stated above through our Contact Us page. In the box marked “Select Department” choose “Internship Inquiry”.

Additionally, the RLF welcomes short-term researchers (for less than one month) at any time, at its discretion. Short-term researchers must have a specific research question and intended result that has been approved in advance by the RLF and that has a demonstrated connection both to their own area of professional activity or interest and that of the RLF.
